Montero asks Junts to leave the "maximum aspirations" with the reduction

The Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero , wants to calm what she considers to be Junts' "maximum aspirations" with the debt reduction that will be debated in the CPFF this Wednesday before landing in the Congress of Deputies . Carles Puigdemont's party is already threatening to reject it, considering it "coffee for everyone", which the first vice president considers "would not make any sense" because it "advances" Junts' objective of achieving financial autonomy for Catalonia. "I hope that Junts will take it into consideration even if it is not at its maximum limit," she said in statements in the corridors of the Senate.
"One can have great aspirations and that's fine, it's legitimate to have great aspirations (...) but there is a long way to go between achieving everything one wants and moving forward towards the objective one wants and, without a doubt, I am convinced that this proposal is in line with what Catalonia and Junts had on the horizon," she said.
This is what Montero said after the post-convergents criticised the agreement reached between the Government and Esquerra Republicana to forgive part of the debt of the Autonomous Liquidity Fund (FLA). "They should not try to trick us because this pact consolidates the deal for everyone," said the party's spokesperson in the Parliament, Mònica Sales, who described the 'pact' as a joke.
Montero has opened the door to dialogue with the post-convergents on this matter, but has insisted that this measure is in line with achieving greater financial autonomy for the communities "and especially those that have a greater vocation for self-government and the exercise of their powers."
Regarding the position of the PP communities, which announced their rejection of the debt relief in the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council (CPFF), the Minister of Finance has assured that, if they finally comply with what they said, "they will be harming the interests of the citizens" due to a decision by Génova "that makes no sense."
In response to criticism from the PP that the measure is not fair and stems from an agreement with the separatists, Montero has defended that the "methodology" is "objective" . "It is a magnificent proposal that contains criteria of justice," said the minister, who stressed that the communities that are less well funded have an "additional push."
In her opinion, the PP communities are following an arbitrary criterion from Génova and, in turn, the PP leadership "is following Ayuso's instructions." For Montero, helping the territories to gradually leave the Autonomous Liquidity Fund (FLA) is "taking into account political and financial autonomy." "It is something that the Parliaments demanded at the time," she stressed.
In fact, the minister has dared to "predict" that if the law goes ahead there will be "no territory that does not sign the agreement" , referring to the signature of the communities for the application of the debt forgiveness. For this reason, she has considered that what the PP is doing is "pure political tactics" because "it always puts the short-sighted interest of Genoa before the interests of the citizens of the autonomous communities that they govern."
